I like to create meaningful things
you can listen to.
Michiel van Poelgeest (1982) is a Dutch music composer, podcast producer and audio-editor.
Before becoming a professional composer, producer and audio editor, I spent my nights on stage and rehearsing with several bands, among which Junior Eats Alone. In 2010 I released an album with my band Villeneuf. It was well-received. A second album would later follow. Villeneuf toured the Netherlands, played numerous venues, and performed on live television during prime time.
“For each project my goal is the same: to make the the intangible audible; to add value to the production; and to create something original and meaningful.”
My musical education started when I was seven years old and my parents signed me up for piano lessons. My classical education went on for about ten years, after which my interests shifted towards electronic music and songwriting. In 2014 I started writing music for TV commercials, documentaries, short films and podcasts, and became especially passionate narrative audio: the crossroads of storytelling, music scoring, sound design and audio editing.
Since 2018 I’ve worked on about 50 different podcast shows, having produced, edited and/or scored hundreds of episodes. In recent years I’ve added script writing to my skill-set, as I became ‘obsessed’ with storytelling podcasts.
I work with people from all over the world and do field recordings whenever I get a chance to, but I do most of my editing and post production in my own custom-built studio in Leiden, the Netherlands. I am married and have three children.
